no no no....
I have a D16y7 in my 99 civic. You can boost it just fine on stock internals. I slapped a turbo kit on mine that i put together myself, only running about 8psi and putting down 170(ish)WHP and 150(ish)ft/tq. Just do your research and know what you are getting into. It's not too hard though. It CAN be done for under 2k if you look around.

thank you captin obvious, I am telling him not to boost a NON VTEC 1.5L cause it will be a waste of money we arn't talking about your 99 y7, I wanted to know if he had the Z6, which in my opinion is one of the best single cams to boost, there is no point to boost a economy motor like a non vtec 1.5 that puts down 106 hp. the rule is to never exceed 8psi on stock internals.. And about your car "about 8psi" how do you not know and 170(ish)hp. obviosly you didn't put it on. how about you don't just read forums and do some real work. peace

if you want something cheap and quick grab a single cam vtec motor and boost it. youll make decent numbers on stock internals

to the original quetion, you don't need to do anything major to the engine you have to boost it. you will however need some sort of fuel management, fuel injectors, and a turbo kit. an estimated cost could be around $1000 to $3000 depending on if you buy a kit or build your on. being 16 i would assume you would be doing a custom kit to save some coin. so an hf mani with a t25 flange, t25 turbo, dsm 450cc injectors, a fmu or hack setup for fuel, downpipe, fmic, charge piping, bov, couplers, and a catch can for your new pcv system. i understand not everyone has the money to do a swap there first time out and some experimenting on what you have on hand is a good way to learn the ropes.
