One of the studs that holds the headers to the head in my GSR is broken off about a half inch below the surface of the head case. Any recommendations on getting it out? Is it possible to retap in this situation?

i believe you can retap but i am not positive on this.. let me get it right its a header bolt that broke right? and not one of the bolts the hold the head to the block? if its just the bolts that secure the header id say yea a machine shop ought to be able to get the remainder of the stud out for ya by drillin it out and yea they would prolly rethread it so that bolt woul be slightly larger than the rest now

yeah, its just a header bolt. It was like that when I bought the car. I went to put some headers on it, thats when I noticed it was missing a bolt. I look inside the hole and there's the half I'm not missing. I went ahead and put the headers on, but now I have a crack in the pipe on cylinder 2. I can only guess its from vibration due to a bad seal.

yes very possible that caused it.. you wouldnt happen to be lucky enough to have an extra head layin around would ya.. it may take a lil time to get it back if you take it to a shop depending on how busy they are it really dont take long to drill it down mic it and rethread but ya never know...

well, I work at a shop. I could probably get it done while I'm replacing my headers. I'm putting Crower internals in the head soon as well, so I'll have a few chances to get it done. I just didn't know if it was a good idea to try and retap that hole or not.
