Hello everybody I am new here and wanted to ask those of you who know. I just bought a 97 Accord, the gas mileage is good but I don't have the horse power. What Can I do to add a little more power by adding little things. An exhaust intake system and what else? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thank you, Lure

Besides an intake, header, and exhaust setup, you can also go turbo, but a good kit will run you about 2-3k.

Cool Dude, what do you mean by Header? Remember I'm totally new to tuning, somebody else on the streets told me to add an after market cam kit. I was like ok what does that mean? Thanks.

A header is a aftermarket high flow exhaust manifold.. A Cam is reffering to your cam shaft witch controls the duration and motion of the vlaves. when people say I/H/E.. it mean itake header exhaust.. Its vtec not vtech. which is variable valve timing and electronic lift control...
I am just trying to give you quick run down.. if you have a question just ask.. no question is ever dumb.. I suggest being a sponge and take everything in.
In your accord you probably have a f23a, this is a good motor for boost. but since you are new to this, I would start you off by getting a cold air intake, I would reccomend just a short ram..

hondasav, Thank you for the heads up, I really apreciate it. Where can I buy a good cold air intake; a good short ram system? Is there a brand that you recommend?
Thank you, Lure

i have a 97 accord myself..not a vtec just a simple 2.2L but as for intake, for the time being i just drilled the airbox. doing that opens it up so much untill you actually get an intake that is..

since its harder to find mods for the f22b I would recommend a AEM V2 cold air intake, but that if you want to take the risk. See a cold air intake routes your filter under the car for the coldest air possible under hood, but you take the chance of hydro locking your motor which is pretty much since its under your car there is a higher chance of water getting in you intake when the water gets to your combustion chamber its bye bye motor(water can not combust). I know some smart ass is going to get on here and say well thats why AEM invented the bypass valve (which collects water) so i will add that it does not work for the V2 because it throws off the vacuum speed killing the power. For Lure si he will understand all the V2 is, is a cold air intake with two different sized runners inside the tube, so when the slower air from the big runner meets with the small slowwer one it creates a vacuum so it will force even more air in. But like i said you take the chance, it also cost more. But if you get the regular kit I would still suggest AEM with a bypass valve. Get a DC header, CAI, and a cat back exhaust your choice because there is so many out there. If you want any more power just add a 50 shot of nitrous. (forget all the fast and the furious crap) nitrous is safe if you use it right and N20 is non-flammable it says it right on the side of my bottle. (a shot is just the power level @ the motor ex:50shot=50@motor) a 50 shot is abot 30whp though on your car so it will not damage gears or axles I would just suggest a clutch with about %50 more holding compasity. And remember a clutch holds torque not horsepower (and nitrous adds a *** load of torque) your stock motor is about 119whp/130 ft/lbs with the I/H/E and a 50 shot you will have around 160whp/189 ft/lbs. So with the spray it will add a *** load of torque. Then down the road you can always upgrade your engine (forged internals), ignition(spark aplifier, 8.5mm wires proper plugs, etc.), fuel(filter, pump, lines, etc.), axles. Then hell throw a 150shot direct port on there.
note: just remember to have plugs 1 degree colder per 100shot, retard ignition timing 1 degree for every 50 shot, always inspect plugs and wires/ cap and rotor, keep an eye on bottle pressure (it should be between 750-950psi)and always use premium gas and you will be fine on the lol gas if you have any question fill free to ask. peace
