Hi there! I have an automatic 1996 Civic EX and was also thinking about an engine swap. What I have found so far is that most of the engine swaps are for manual transmissions. I did however find www.fnfmotors.ca that offered a JDM B16A II DOHC VTEC FWD Automatic Tranny, the problem I'm having right now is emissions as the requirements indicate OBD2 to OBD1, and in my state, they will be testing the vehicle based on OBD2 standards. "OBD1 was 1995 standard." Also, the transmission in our vehicles is not as large as the ones we are considering and therefore, a new transmission bracket that fits will be required.
Requirements: Honda Civic 96-97 Need engine, ecu, plus transmission, wiring harness jumper from OBD2 to OBD1, half shaft, shift linkage, axles and 99+ Civic rear engine mount.
While the B16AII DOHC VTEC has less horses than the H22, it should be easier to put in the vehicle and less expensive if I can just get around the emissions problem! Best of luck! Let me know how your swap is going!
