Ok here is my issue, the rod in the engine block of my stock f23A4 is bent.  So I have to get a replacement engine.  Is the best one for me to get for power and overall is the prelude one?  Anyone know anywhere in south carolina where they do engine swaps?  How much should I pay for the whole swap?  Someone please help me out on this as I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Theoretically the best engine swap for a 98-02 four cylinder accord is the Prelude H22 engine.  However, there are a lot of considerations before you plunge in:  1)  if your state requires smog inspections, will the new engine pass?  The F23a4 Accords have ULEV status -- Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle.  Whether the H22 engine is ULEV compliant is a good question for which I do not have an answer.  2)  If the ULEV thing is not a problem for the smog police, then the next question is, will your state require the new engine to have all of the OBD II equipment hooked up and working?  There is a lot of information out there on the H22 swaps for the 1990-97 Accords, but the 1998 to 2002 vehicles are a little different, and very few people seem to have done this swap, and fewer still seem to have taken a vehicle with the swap for a visit with the smog police.  3)  You can expect about a 50 horsepower boost with the H22 swap, perhaps 10 horsepower more if you use an imported Japanese engine.  4)  Cost:  Used H22 engines with low mileage from U.S. cars are not common, and are expensive as a result.  The commonest source of used Japanese engines are imports from Japan.  Most JDM importers charge around $1700 for a complete H22 or H23 engine, and another $750 for a transmission.  5)  Do you have a manual or auto transmission?  Most folks who do this swap seem to want to convert an auto trans car to a manual trans.  One guy on another site quoted a price of $4500 for doing this whole swap, including conversion of the transmission from auto to manual, all parts and labor.

I have not done this swap yet, but have researched it extensively.  I'm planning to do it on my son's '99 Accord LX, but I'm thinking I should keep the original engine and trans around in case the thing fails smog here in CA.

Hope this helps.
