Ok i have a 1995 civic coupe. I am looking to do an engine swap. I have been doing some research for sometime now and well theres so many possibilities. I will most likely be rebuilding this engine from ground up. all new internals and such. i would like to eventually run boost. I am not sure what i will be using it for either drag or road course. Prob a bit of both. Well can someone help me. I dont want to swap a k series. I am looking at h22 or b20. Can someone help me give me some ideas. I do have a budget. But will be doing alot of the work my self.
Thank you

b20 is nice and torqy when built up good and right... the h22 is just a beast though it is already quite powerful compared to b series its heavier though.. im kinda torn also but if i had to choose right now id go h22 do a full on build start with the bottom end first though more expensive its more weise.. you can always pull the head off later to get it ported and what not... and super charger....ohh yes the wonderful jackson racing supercharger.. that is if you want constant power. im not a huge turbo fan i like my power constant and permanent not waiting for the turbo to spool up.. anyway hope my opinion helps set you down a path of fun

Yea i am pretty sure i will get a h22 but i need to find one for the right price. I am co-oping at a machine shop and well i can use the equipment for free so i will be boring and port and polish for ffree. I will be building it all up everything. I dont kno about the supercharger but i like turbo. how much can you bore a h22 out to? How high would the compression be if i bored it out?

Also does it matter what year of h22 or are they all the same with the vtec head and all. I want to find one that is seized or something wrong with it so i can get it cheap but if you can tell me a year of h22 that would be great thanks.

well since you have a 95 civic id say go with the 92-96 h22 motors..if you look around ebay sometime you can find people parting them out or local salvage yards... as far as max boreim not sure i know of an h23 bored to a 2.4 liter so i imagine you could do the same from 2.2 out to 2.4 maybe but the 2.2 is still fine.. compression is changed by pistons and rod combination.. and rod stroke ratio. just my 2 cents if you want turbo i say h23 it has greaaat comp for turbo!

The h23 is that a bored out h22 or is that a totally different engine. If so the compression would prob be dif cause well i want to bore out and put new rods and pistons in. I am still not sure about the turbo but an fast all motor car would be sweet. Is there any chance of making a d16z6 fast like to keep up with the dohc. I have seen on ebay civic race cars with sohc motors and i wonder how they can be fast.

yes they can be fast but itll take a but load of money and tuning to get them to hang with a nice dual over head cam engine.. the h23 is another engine found in the prelude si it is non vtec and has better comp ratio for turbo to begin with the h22 has vtec and about another 20 horsepower benefit over the h23 but it dont take a whole lot to get that power i guess you have to decide if you want the vtec benefits or you want more of a build challenge and go non vtec monster like i did with my b18a1.

Ok I am getting a b18b1 for dirt cheap. I dont know what to do with it. I will be rebuilding it from the ground up. but i dont kno if i should go vtec or leave it? Should i go all motor or turbo. If i go turbo i will want to keep the compression down. so i would not go vtec. But i am able to get a 98 gsr head for cheap to. should i do that. I want to use this car as a road racing car and a occasional drag car but not all the time more road race. I will be putting it in a 97 hatch. I just got that car so i am using it all for racing and a bit of driving in the city. Any info on this engine and what do to would be helpful.
Thank you
Dave

Will the head fit on the bottom end with out any problems. I was planning on boreing out the cylinder and putting bigger pistons in. Will this be a problem? I also am wondering how much i can bore it out to. 1.9L is that possible? or even 2L. I also want a really reliable car so nothing that will be risky.

Here is a good idea....get the gsr head...yes it will fit pretty good....instead of boring it out....get forged b18b rods and forged b16 pistons....it will be like a type -r gs-r i guess....but the all motor power will be beastly and then get fidanza adjustable cam gears or msd ignition or just retard the timing a bit and put a 60 shot of nitrous in it.....if you go turbo...then road racing will obselete for you cuz you will be relying and waiting for good boost till you get out of the turns and it wont even be worth itby then....all the shifting donw and rpm flexuating wont be good with the turbo...but supercharging would be nice....and id leave the stoking and boring to different liters alone!...theres so many good honda motor builds and millions of aftermarket capapbilities...so leave that alone...it will lead to headache...but go for the port and polishing and boring of other parts such as throttle body.

Ok well i bought the b18 and its def a rebuild. I was thinking about doing pretty much a full build but i dont think i will touch the crank. I dont know if i should bore the cylinders out or not, i think it would be a good idea. But port and poslishing the head is a good idea. I most likely will be doing all of this for free so it wouldnt hurt to do it. I am looking for around 300hp if that is possible without boost from a b18. I still need to buy the gsr head. I prob will after i pay off the speeding ticket lol. Yea that pretty much would be the gsr head. But im def not cheaping out on anything here. I have 8months to build this up and i dont mind spending a couple grand. I just want it to be relaible. If anyone can givee me an idea on a set up that would be nice, im looking for 300hp if possible with out boost or nos.
