I'm brand new to the Honda world of racing, but am trying to learn everythign I can about the 06-07 Si models.  I'm having a bad time with third gear and it's constantly grinding out.  It feels like it's engaged and then pops out and gives that embarassing "grind" noise as I get passed by hitting it.  Anyone else have this issue with 3rd?

Would a short throw possibly help the transistion into this gear?  Anyone have a good idea for a short throw?

from what I have read they say that the syncro gear in Hondas transmissions is notoriously weak. One of the articles I read in the latest issue of Honda tuning they did a transmission swap in a d-series civic and mentioned that they replaced those gears. You might be having the same problem.

I didn't know that K series and D series engines would be synonymous with the adjustments made to them.  What kind of parts should I get to alivate the issue?  That and I'm still interested in a short throw.

There's probably just a fault in the design of the gear (clutching teeth next to the gear). There's a similar problem on the 4th gen. Prelude going into fifth gear. I'm not sure how to fix it other than to have it replaced. But thats too pricy just for one lil thing. Make sure the clutch slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder seals are good so that disengagement of the clutch is full. You can check this by looking at the clutch fluid. If it has black residue in it the seals are bad, most likely from the slave cylinder. But this problem on a new car is uncommon and it may just be the syncro gear. In a open road just drive normally and when you get to that gear throw it in slowly with the clutch pedal fully pressed. You can hold the clutch and do it over IF the gear doesn't grind too bad. You shouldn't hear any grinding at all but just the feeling of it popping into gear, if you did it right, well, thats how I fixed the problem on my Prelude.
