I have a 2001 Civic DX with 90k miles and no air conditioning. The car is in excellent shape, but i find it lacking in performance. Will a K20A from RSX Type R fit in my car and what problems will i run into during install? I have a new job, so money is more abundant than it used to be. I want to do it right. Also, I live in NY so what, if any, emissions problems may I face?

It might fit. You gotta get motor mounts, wiring harnesses and K20 ecu, driveshafts, and a bit more. Had a friend of a friend who put a K20 in his 01' Civic EX Coupe. It looked fine; runs good and strong. Save up for the swap to get all the necessary parts - I had an old friend who did an H-Series swap in his Prelude and forgot to order some important parts and took him a LONG time to finish the swap...idiot. If I remember correctly from Automotive School, I think NY adopted CA emission laws so it would be strict. But I don't think you have anything to worry about, the stock K20 should be able to pass emissions with no problem. Oh, make sure you have a working catalytic converter. OEM preferbly or one that works well. It's important for passing emissions.

you seem like you know alot about swaps would you know if a k24 would also fit in my 01 civic lx? and if so i plan on putting k20 type s heads on it, will all of it go together and also be good in terms of wireing harness and will this make it any harder in any thing else? its going to take awhile i know that especially with a limmited budget but there is alot of places around here that has honda and acura parts and i can get good deals on alot of the stuff. another thing i was wondering is how important is a hondata chip? do i have to have one for the swap cuz they are expencive

I'm not sure if it would fit in the 01' LX. I don't know everything about Civics but it does fit in the 99' Civic Coupes and Hatchbacks. I know the K20 block does fit. So it should, since most Civics share the same or similar engine bay layouts. I think I've heard of one case where a person did swap a K in an 01' Civic LX. Yes, the K20 type S head will fit on the K24. Its a good choice because the K20 head is a higher flowing head than the original K24 head. But I heard that the K24 block in the Civic has some ground clearance issues (scraping I guess) if the car is too low. Go to www.hasport.com or they make really good mounts for these types of swaps and they do have mounts for the K20 swap into the 01' civic but I'm not sure about the K24. As for the ECU and wiring harness you do need the K-series ones, of course. The Hondata chip will be good for tuning if you plan to do the K20/K24 Hybrid. You don't have to have one if you plan to just do the normal K20 type S block and head. You should research this more or pick up a few tuner magazines at the book store - these swaps are becoming more common so they should be in most magazines.

yea about the clearence issues i was planning on having a local junk yard do a complete in and out swap and they said id have to get the rsx suspension so i wonder if that is just the simple solution but yea like you said its getting more and more popular so doing research should be eaiser. its pretty hard to find parts and other things for a k swap so i figured id just make mine a rsx in a civic body

Yeah, that sounds good. Checkout www.hasport.com - they make motormounts for the specific K swap into your civic. If you have any other questions, look for their number on the website and call 'em. They can probably give you some good advice about swapping since they do make motor mount swaps for a most Hondas.

Thanks for the info. Also, any recomendations on who to buy this motor from? I have no idea when I'm going to start the actual swap. Most likely summer time.

there is a place i found before they changed ebay its called east park honda recyclers or somethihg along those lines they are in new york. they seem ok but of course the problem you have to worry about is if its stolen so what you could do is once you find the place is call them and try to get the number off the engine and take that to where ever you know of that will run it for you and tell you if it is stolen or not. ive been told to take the number to my local highway patrol and they can run the number.

I have been hearing alot about stolen engines on the news. Recently in California were they crushed a few cars for it. Sad, especially if the owners didn't know about the stolen parts.
