Ok, i'm not a honda guy, but i lucked across this one cheap, now i need your help.

93 civic lx, 4 dr, d15b7 motor, 5 spd

It has new fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, button, air filter, ICM. High flow cat, ractive "can" style muffler, all that. Neat car. Didn't run when i got it, a little tlc and boom, it screams! well, it did.
Now it won't start. if its cold, it will try to start the first time, won't go above 250 rpm's it'll diesel like two small puffs then die. Thats it until tomorrow, then it'll do the same thing. Here's what i've eliminated as the problem.

Tune up parts listed above, fuel pump, main relay.

Everything i'm reading now thinks its the distributor. To be honest, my local parts houses want more for a new distributor than i have invested in the car so far! (told ya i got a good deal) I'm going to all the junk yards tomorrow to find a distributor. Does anyone agree thats the problem, and does anyone else have something to add i should try???

What all motors use the same distributor? And what al cars should i look for? So far i now all the 92-95 non-vtec motors and all the non si del sol's are the same, right?

Thanks for any input you guys have. Like i said, i'm a chevy man, i've recently started messing with older nissan's, and this car may lead me into the civic/crx scene as well. There's a lot of those guys around here, but none of them really care much for me, they can't catch my old chevy truck! but anyway, thanks again for any help.

i thought i mentioned it has new plugs... but, It has brand new NGK iridium's, ran me $8 a piece. I found a dist. today, it is from a slightly different motor, so the mounts don't line up, but it made the car run, i think i can make this work. thanks for the incite tho.
