I've been racking my brain for sometime now tring to pick on which motor I want to drop in my Honda. Right now I have my mind set on the H22a. But also thinking about one of the B's. I saw a few F20's and f22's on ebay for cheap, but i hear they are no good. I just want something i can get alot of HP out of and can tune up good, without speeding $$$ a ton...

i would go with either the b series or h series if you dont want to spend a lot. If your willing enough go with the k series. I wouldnt go with the f series thats what they put into accords. Ive seen some h22 that push over 500hp which is impressive. But b series have been able to produce that high hp amt also. I would go with the h22 or a b18 if i were you

There is no such thing as a d16y6, so don't even listen to that n00b that doesn't know what he's talking about.

First things first, the first thing anybody should do before starting a project is stating the goals that need to be met.

1.  You want an engine that has a lot of power output.
2.  You want an engine that you can "tune up good" what you mean here is that you want an engine with good aftermarket support.
3.  Like most people, you don't want to spend a lot of money.

Well, the first thing that you need to do here is ditch the K-series idea.  HondaTuningMagazine is good at giving the illusion that the k-series floated down from heaven on a cloud full of virgins  and that the K setup -> Civic is simple and cost effective.  Take my advice, it is not, the transmissions have problems and the money invested to outcome gained is not the best ratio that you will find.

Fortunately for you, there are many many options.  Lets get a few facts straight (something that HTM isn't always the best at)

There are a few F20's and F22's

F20A = non-vtec accord variant found in both SOHC and DOHC forms.  These engines are CCW (they spin counterclockwise when looking at the crank pulley)
F20B = two forms, one is DOHC non-vtec, the other is the DOHC VTEC h22 variant.  For more info on this engine, you can check a thread that I created, here: http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2018500 Both F20B variants are CCW engines.
F20C = DOHC VTEC s2000 engine found in the US 1999-2003 S2000 This engine is CW, and will not mate to any CW transmission.

F22A = accord SOHC variant, CCW engine
F22B = accord SOHC VTEC variant, CCW engine
F22C = 2004-present DOHC VTEC s2000 engine, CW engine

As far as power is concerned, you have two options, forced induction and all motor.  I'm not going to get into too much depth here regarding the two, but supercharging/turbocharging/nitrous falls under the forced induction category, and strictly engine power is of course all motor power.

There are many factors that determine which setup is going to be best for you.  My suggestion would be to check out the H2B/F2B and the H2D/F2D hybrid setups.  They are the best bang for the buck at this time.

actually not a nOOb but a misprint what i meant is y8, 96-00 civic EX motor or you could do a Mini me headswap with the sohc you have right now. gude and Bisimoto makes GREAT! products for the SOHC motors if you want to keep price down and spank the b's with your d. They have everything from cams, headers, pistons, headers, just about everything you could want for a N/A build. You can also do an ITB build using Honda CBR throttle bodys like Honda tuning did with one of the editors cars i think march of 2005 issue. If i had and older Honda then I would be going that rt, but as a nOOb i only have a k20a2 swapped ep3 with 220 whp.

OK.....  First off we need to know what you are going to swap the motor into. WE all can say what motor is beater then the other but the deciding factor as slightly stated with the hatch is the power to weight ratio.

You can throw a B series in a htach and instant notice in acceleration and top speed, Toss a K in it and you are sitting there lighting them up.

Lets say for shits an giggles you swap an F series into a 91 hatch You will notice a big difference same as staed with the b. However I believe the F will win this battle. Sure the B series are Amazing when it comes to accel but the F is aswell.

Your choice. The name of the Game is Power to Wieght when it comes to this question. I have an 2 door accord as seen in my pic. I have an F series and I have beaten H22 Preludes, and stayed with B series swapped civics. So I can speak from experience.

A good tune and calculation of Power to weight can make all the difference in the world in the tuning scene. Technology has come a long way as far as Swaps and stock motors.

Keep an eye out for the Castrol Syntec Challenge. You have names like cosworth, Bisimoto, Hasport, etc. all showing what they can do. Sure many are boosting but 2 are not. Bisimoto and cosworth are going all motor. And one is working on an F series(bisimoto). Look at the technology he is bringing to the table.

To be Continued...... When we can get a car for which the swap will be going into.

Just a little tid bit of info. Stock F22a boosted of of a 1 gen DSM setup can run low-mid 14 seconds. Now upgrade the down pipe, ehaust and Build the block....Easy mid 12 with a good tune. Low 12 with slicks.

Torque is a *** with the F

well if you have the money the k is champ but its alot.id go with a b16 or b18 but they are still kinda expensive because of demand. but 3000 for a b series is better than 6000 for a k

If you are really into doing your own little project and saving some money. I just recently read in an import tuner mag that a guy took parts from all different parts of honda engines and with everything being stock he hit over 200hp. Just thought I'd throw in my two bits.

Acura TSX When looking for your next vehicle, think about the Acura TSX, a stylish car with nice features. The TSX gets 18 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway, and is available in the following bodystyle: Sedans. The Honda Pilot and the Honda Ridgeline are other vehicles that might interest you.
