You said it sounds like it wants to start, so it turns and cranks, but wont start right, if you already did the wires and coil, I would agree and say its probably your distributor. Now if it doesn't turn over at all, or crank when you turn the key than the starter is a possibility. I its is the starter, then a grinding is commonly present when turning the ignition as well. Let me know how it goes.

try the fuel injection (main fi relay). During the summer months the increased heat will over heat and destroy an old relay. I had it go out twice for me with the same symptoms each time. It is located next to the fuse panel under the dash. Hope it helps

Save some money - Most likely the main relay. monted under the dash / drivers side - remove it - resolder the contacts- reinstall - saved 50 - 150 bucks in my 93 CX. Also repaired 4 other hondas the same week / same problem.
Symptoms - sometimes it starts fine. Sometimes it turns over but won't start. Sometimes wait a few minutes or slam the door from being stranded often fixes the problem temporarily. (Swear if you must- but it won't be loud enough to shack the relay !-)
Finally - always replace the cheap parts first.
