Dont shoot, I know all of you will think i'm retarded however nonone seems to want to help.
I own a 1996 civic ex the sixth digit of vin is "8" now I have found several engines that look like mine, exactly like mine only they say the vin should indicate "6" for the sixth digit. Now the listings I have found either tell me what vin is needed(no engine model number) or model number (no vin indicator)
What is the actual model number of my engine D16??etc... And why is the price so much more for the engine that is apparently needed specfically for my car. ex they want 1k for "8" digit, but "6" or "7" is like 500.
What makes that digit 6,7,8.
thanks for any help

If it is an ex than it is D16Y8 and is the SOHC VTEC engine is why it is more than the other non VTEC engines. Look at the block to the left of the header and there should be a flat space with the engine code stamped on it to be sure.
