Hey everyone, my lil bro had one of his piston rods go right threw the block on his 2008 civic si and warranty dont want to take care of it on account he had a cold air on it. does anyone know what block he could substitute the stock one for? i'm trying to help him keep the cost down as much as possible. new motor runs about 7,500. and the stock block alone is about 2500. any info at all would be a great help, it took "Honda" over a month just to tell him they wont fix it. thank You all in advance.
also the car only had 16,000 miles on it, Honda said the motor hyro-locked which i doubt. he did'nt even get around the corner from his house or out of first gear, and no puddles wet spots, bright sunny day.

That sucks that such a new motor is dead already. Try looking for a K20 out of a early 2000s RSX it is really close to the engine from the 2008 SI.

Most any K-series block will work, except the K23 used on the Acura RDX which comes turbo'd from the factory.

Not 100 percent sure, but I don't see why not. z1 and z3 are roughly the same and the K20 is just 2.0 liter so I'd think it'd fit... I'll see what I can find out. Check back with me tomorrow.

Okay, yes, a K20z3 head will fit fine on a K20z1 block, but I think a K24 head will give you better power. I think Honda Tuning did an article on that a while back. You may want to search for that. And yes, it will fit just fine since you have an Si. Anything else would be a pain to swap in.
[EDIT]: Here's the article I was thinking about, http://www.hondatuningmagazine.com/features/htup_0505_k_series_upgrade/index.html
